Burning waste in cement kilns is bad for both the local community and the planet (Paul Connett, PhD)

Paul Connett (PhD) presents the global negative impacts of trash incineration globally and locally. Click to view the slides or watch the video presentation.

In this presentation, Paul Connett share his own background and knowledge on the practice of trash incineration as a source of energy for cement kilns.

Connett presents his case against incineration in cement kilns. He includes major health concerns and environmental regulations in his argument explanation. Waste incineration is a danger to those working in the facility and those living around it, especially through exposure to toxic nanoparticles and fine dust.

Connett proposes that there are sustainable alternatives to waste incineration that include improving design and introducing policies that limit waste.
