Lehigh Cement Co.'s permit proposal gets public airing

LLC plant manager publicly presented the company's plan to use plastic and paper "raggertail" as a fuel alternative.

The Lehigh Cement Co. team publicly proposed their idea to burn a plastic and paper mixture called "ragger tail" as an alternative fuel source. They presented to locals and allowed time for people to discuss the plan with Lehigh professionals, but did not allow time for a forum.

The plant plans to use ragger tail as 15% of its future fuel source, so long as it receives the permit to do so. Lehigh continues to emphasize its role in reducing the amount of waste thrown into landfills, however there are community members that are concerned about potential air toxins produced by burning alternative fuel sources.
